Invitation for nomination of the Prince Mahidol Award 2025

On the occasion of the 134th anniversary of the Birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla and the 34th  of the Prince Mahidol Award.

We would like to invite you to nominate individual (s) or institution(s) for their outstanding performance and/or research that contributes directly to the betterment of society for the Prince Mahidol Award 2025.

Two Prince Mahidol Awards will be conferred on an annual basis, one in medicine and one in public health, each prize consists of a medal, a certificate, and $US 100,000.

Nomination Procedures

  1. An individual or group of individuals or an institution may be nominated by national medical or health authorities or by an individual or group of individuals in a nongovernmental capacity, as candidates for the Award. Nominations are transmitted to the secretary-general of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation.
  2. The nomination forms, which can be submitted either online or by mail, are forwarded to the panel of Scientific Advisory Committee for initial screening.
  3. The nomination forms, which have been screened by Scientific Advisors, are then forwarded to the International Award Committee, which comprises several world-renowned experts in the fields of medicine and public health, who will consider them and make recommendations to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
  4. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees makes final approval.

Timeline of nomination

  • The application period begins on February 1 of each year.
  • Nomination forms shall be submitted to the secretary-general of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation by May 31 of each year.
  • The names of the laureates shall be announced in late November – early December each year.
  • The Award ceremony shall be held in January of the following year.

Criteria for the Medicine prize

The Medicine Prize is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions and leadership in the field of medicine over an extended period. To qualify for consideration, candidates must meet the following criteria :

  1. Leadership :Candidates must have shown exemplary leadership and professionalism in advancing the understanding or application of processes for disease prevention or treatment in medicine.
  2. Breakthrough discovery :Candidates must have made outstanding research moving the frontiers of knowledge. That knowledge should lead to new medicines, devices, or novel disease treatments that are pathbreaking. Their works should demonstrate notable impacts in addressing specific health challenges globally. This includes :
  • Discovering or inventing new principles, processes, or devices with substantial benefits.
  • Developing and enhancing methods or procedures, or making other significant contributions.
  1. Continued Contribution :Candidates should have sustained efforts over time in improving health through research.

In addition to professional achievements, candidates must exhibit high personal conduct and adhere to professional ethics at or above the level of international standard.


Criteria for the Public Health Prize

“An award for original, creative, evidence-based solutions for population health problems, or for outstanding innovation, leadership, and achievement in advancing population health, which result in significant and sustained impact on population health and well-being, and promote equity and social justice”.
