On 3 September 2018, H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Ana María Sálomon, Director-General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, who recently assumed her duty as the Department’s Director-General. Ambassador of Thailand took this opportunity to congratulate H.E. Mrs. Sálomon on the appointment as the new Director-General of the Department and reiterate the readiness of the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid to work closely with the Department.

According the Ambassador Chansuriya, there has been increasing interest of Spanish public and private sector in recent years. Strategic Vision for Spain in Asia 2018-2022 and the establishment of Spain – ASEAN Business Association are the testimonies of Spain’s commitment to enhance its ties with Asia, including Thailand.

In this meeting, Ambassador of Thailand and the Director-General took stock of issues in Thailand-Spain bilateral relations and discussed on the further strengthening of our bilateral bonds in wide-range areas, including trade and investment, tourism, fisheries cooperation among other.

Both sides also discussed about possible activities for the Thai Foreign Minister at the margin of the 14th ASEM Foreign Minister Meeting, to be hosted by Spain next year. Thailand and Spain also stressed the importance of the 3rd Meeting of Thailand-Spain Political Consultation, which will be held in Thailand soon.  

Ambassador of Thailand also shared with the Director-General information on Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and its investment opportunities, which the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid has already conveyed to private sectors in Spain for their consideration.
