On 13-17 July 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid led a Spanish delegation to visit Thailand. The delegation consisted of experts from the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) and representatives from ABENGOA, Spain’s leading company in the environment and renewable energy sector.

Main objectives of the project is to promote cooperation in research and technological development in the field of waste-to-energy and introduce the company's technology in renewable energy to government agencies and Thai private sector as well as to explore potential business opportunities in Thailand. During the visit, the delegation met with the Thai authorities; namely (1) Bangkok Governor (2) Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy (3) National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office, as well as private sector representatives, namely (1) Renewable Energy Group, Federation of Thai Industries(2) PTT Public Company Limited (3) Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and (4) Thai Chamber of Commerce.

The delegation also carried out a study visit to the Waste Management Siam Ltd. to learn about technology for producing steam from municipal solid waste. The delegation was among the panelists at the 3rd Workshop on Green Economy organized jointly with the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin and the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand on 17 July 2015 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
