During January and June 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy undertook the “Project to Explore Economic, Trade, Investment, Technology & Innovation Opportunities In Spain”, focusing on waste-to-energy technology, cooperation in the fields of education and Thai gastronomy promotion. The Embassy delegation, led by H.E. Mrs. Busaya Mathelin, Ambassador of Thailand, met with authorities concerned, both the private and public sectors, as well as research and academic institutions.

1. On 19 January 2015, the delegation paid a study visit to the Center of Renewable Energy Development (CEDER) in Soria and received a briefing on the Center’s work, waste-to-energy technology in Spain. The delegation also visited the Center’s waste-to-energy pilot plant.

2. On 25-26 May 2015, the delegation paid a study visit to ABENGOA’s waste-to-biofuels plant in Salamanca, and discussed cooperation on educational cooperation with Dr. Daniel Hernandez Ruiperez, Rector of the University of Salamanca and Mrs. Maria Angeles Serrano Garcia, Vice Rector of Internationalization.

3. On 7-10 June 2558, the delegation paid a study visit to the Zabalgarbi Plant in Bilbao which produces electricity from municipal solid waste and gas, and was briefed on renewable energy policy of the Basque Country by Ente Vasco de la Energía (EVE). The delegation also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Iñigo Urkullu, President of the Basque Country in Vitoria and discussed cooperation to promote Thai gastronomy in Spain with Mr. Joxe Marin Aizega, Director of the Basque Culinary Center in San Sebastian.
