Ceremony of the Presentation of Letters of Credence to the Co-Prince of the Principality of Andorra

                        On 13 March 2012 H.E. Mr. Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya has presented  the Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Principality of Andorra, to His Eminence Joan Enric Vives Sicilia, the Co-Prince of the Principality of Andorra at the Episcopal Palace of Seu de Urgel, Spain.

                        The Principality of Andorra is governed by a Parliamentary Democracy with only one camera. Due to its close historical ties with Spain and France, the Principality of Andorra has two Co-Princes who are the Heads of State of Andorra. At present, His Eminence Joan Enric Vives Sicilia, the Bishop of Seu de Urgel of Spain and His Excellency Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, occupy the positions of the Co-Princes.

                        After the Ceremony, the Ambassador had the opportunity to exchange views with His Eminence the Co-Prince and was able to transmit the best wishes from His Majesty the King of Thailand, the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand to the Co-Prince and the people of Andorra. His Eminence the Co-Prince expressed his appreciation and request the Ambassador’s assistance in forwarding his best wishes to His Majesty the King of Thailand for His Majesty’s speedy recovery. The Ambassador also took the opportunity to inform His Eminence the Co-Prince of the political and economical situation in Thailand as well as the highlights of the Royal Thai Government’s policies.

                        The Principality of Andorra has an area of 468 square km., a population of 85,168 persons (data 2011). The main source of income of Andorra is tourism, which accounts for 80% of its GDP. The most important tourist attraction is the ski resorts and  Andorra’s banking services are also very well known.

                        Thailand and Andorra established diplomatic relations in 2000. In 2011 bilateral trade reached 640,000 US dollars. Thai main exports to Andorra are shoes, canned and processed seafood, plastic products, etc. At present, Andorra has not yet opened the Embassy or accredited an Ambassador to Thailand.
