Ambassador of Thailand to Spain paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of San Antonio, Ibiza

                        On 5 September 2011, H.E. Mr.Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya, Ambassador

of Thailand to Madrid paid a courtesy call on Ms. Josefa Gutierrez Costa, Mayor of San Antonio, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand,  Asociacion Espanola de Muay Thai y Cultura (A.E.M.T.C.) and the European Muay Thai Confederation  

                        The Ambassador thanked the city of San Antonio for its cooperation with the Asociacion Espanola de Muay Thai in organizing the said event. The Ambassador also expressed his hope that San Antonio’s hosting of the competition would further promote Muay Thai in Spain as Muay Thai is a very effective martial arts both for those who wish to train for self defense and those who wish to train as a sport. The Mayor of San Antonio concurred that Ibiza also seeks to widen the choices of touristic and sport activities offered on the island.  On San Antonio’s part, the city recognizes that Muay Thai is an interesting sport and that there is a large group of people who practiced Muay Thai in Ibiza. The Ambassador and the Mayor also discussed possibilities of organizing a festival to promote Thai culture, gastronomy and tourism together.

                        After the meeting, the Ambassador and Mr. Jose Antonio Verdugo, deputy Mayor of San Antonio gave a press conference to journalists from Ibiza TV and “Ultima Hora Ibiza y Formentera” newspaper. The Ambassador informed the media about the courtesy call and the importance of Muay Thai to Thailand’s history and culture. The Ambassador also expressed his hope that since Muay Thai has started to achieve wider international acceptance and recognition, it could be said that Muay Thai is crossing boundaries and hopes that the sport will generate more interest in Spain. During the press conference, Ms. Amalia Garcia, or “Miss Spanish butterfly”, the reknown Spanish Muay Thai champion also made her appearance.
