By the invitation from the Asociacion Espanola de Muay Thai y Cultura (A.E.M.T.C.) , H.E. Mr. Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain attended the Opening Ceremony of the 6th European Amateur & 1st Pro-am Muay Thai European Championships 2011, at Polideportivo Stadium of San Antonio, Ibiza on 6 September 2011. The competition has over 100 participants from Spain, Portugal, England, Scotland, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Cheq Republic, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Russia and Iraq, who would fight for the championship title.
The Ambassador of Thailand and Mr. Jose Antonio Verduga, Deputy Mayor of the city of Sant Antoni, presided over the said Opening Ceremony. The Ambassador delivered a speech expressing gratitude towards the city of San Antonio for being the co-organizer of the event. The Ambassador also elaborated on the historical and cultural value of Muay Thai and thanked contestants for participating in the event, which help to promote Muay Thai to be known worldwide. Later, the Ambassador and the Deputy Mayor along with over 300 spectators watched the demonstration of Muay Thai Boran and Thai stick fighting, and the first rounds of the competition.
During the visit to Ibiza, the Ambassador had the opportunity to discuss with the representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, Asociacion Espanola de Muay Thai y Cultura, and the European Muay Thai Confederation, on ways to promote Muay Thai in Spain. The Ambassador affirms that the Royal Thai Embassy will continue to support Muay Thai in Spain because not only that Muay Thai is a martial art which is well known but it is also an important part of Thailands national historical and cultural heritage
