On 5 August 2011, H.E. Mr. Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain gave an interview to Hola! magazine, which is a well known lifestyle and variety magazine under the same publication umbrella as Hello!. Hola! and Hello! magazines are published in 5 languages and distributed all over 100 countries around the world, with over 2-3 million readers per week.

Hola! magazine interviewed the Ambassador on the topic of Thai cuisine, in which the Ambassador elaborated on the historical background, the evolution and the unique taste of Thai cuisine. The Ambassador explained that Thai cuisine’s main ingredients are rice, vegetables, fruits, poultry and fishery products found in abundance in Thailand. Thai cuisine also receives and adapts the good culture of its neighbouring countries and takes inspiration from the use of ingredients and cooking methods from the foreign communities which have lived in Thailand since historical times. Therefore, Thai cuisine is considered as a cuisine which blends and combines the best and most representatives of Asian cuisines.  The Thai Royal Palace has also played an important role in developing and supporting Thai cuisine by modifying the recipe and the presentation of Thai dishes. Thailand started adopting the use of western style of table setting and the use of fork and spoon, after His Majesty King Chulalongkorn introduced them into Thailand for the first time.

The Ambassador of Thailand stated that the Royal Thai Embassy has a policy to promote Thai Food in Spain. In August and September 2011, the Embassy will organize, in collaboration with Team Thailand, the events “Thai Gourmet Luncheon” and “An Evening of Thai Tapas” to promote Thai restaurants and Thai food products in Spain.

For the interview with Hola! magazine, the Ambassador also presented the dishes “Tom Yam Khung”, “Nam Prik Ong” and “Khanom Tua Paeb” which are easy to cook Thai dishes. The interview with the Ambassador of Thailand as well as the recipes and the photographs of Thai dishes, will be published in Hola! magazine edition November 2011.
