Ambassador of Thailand to Spain paid a study visit to Pamplona and Alava to visit the operations and meet with executives of prominent private companies in the area

On 27-28 September 2022, H.E. Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain, accompanied by Mr. Pakorn Kumpornlua, First Secretary, and Mrs. Ormchai Annopkraisorn, Consular Officer, paid a study visit to Pamplona and Alava, to visit the operations and meet with executives of prominent private companies in the area as follows:

 

1) On 27 September 2022 - The delegation visited Florette Iberia SL, where they were welcomed by Mr. Jorge Moreno, General Manager, and Mr. Daniel Ramos, Director of Human Resources. Florette Iberia SL was founded in 1989 and is a leading Spanish company in the production of fresh vegetables, salads, and vegetable products (in 2021, the turnover of the company was approximately 200 million euros). The company produced more than 60 types of greens such as salad vegetables, ready-to-eat salads, appetizers, and salad dressings. Of the 6 factories and vegetable farms in Spain, the headquarters of the company is located in Pamplona. The company has more than 14,000 outlets and employs more than 1,800 workers, and currently employs 52 Thai workers to work on vegetable farms, where 6 Thai nationals work at Pamplona.

 

In this regard, the Ambassador expressed appreciation to the company for taking good care of the Thai workers and also emphasized that the welfare of Thai workers is a high priority for the Thai government. The delegation was presented with a briefing on the company's business development plan, which is now focusing on sustainable agriculture, and also visited the plantation area and the company's product packaging plant. Most importantly, the delegation had the opportunity to meet with several Thai workers working at the company in Pamplona, ​and also provided home medicines to the representatives of this group of Thai workers.

 

2) On 28 September 2022 - The delegation visited Bodegas Marques de Riscal, at Alava, where they were welcomed by Mr. Carlos Ulibarri Echevarria, Technical Supervisor of Public Relations Department of the wine company. The delegation was presented with the history of the business which was founded in 1856 and is the oldest winery in the province of Alava. Later in 2006, Ciudad de Vino was established, which consisted of wineries, vineyards, and its own Hotel Marques De Riscal, designed by the famous Canadian architect, Frank Gehry, who also designed the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao in Bilbao.

 

On this occasion, the company led the delegation to visit the company's wine aging process and its technology, while also presenting information on the company's vineyards in many regions and origins. The company has won many awards and it has been rated as the number one best vineyard and winery in Europe and number two in the world, and has also recently won the Merchants Awards of the International Wine Challenge 2021. Currently, the company exports 65% of its wines to approximately 110 countries worldwide, including Thailand, where it has a distribution center.
