On 2 Feburary 2023, Mr. Pongprach Makchang, Charge d'affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid, attended the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) Meeting 1/2023 at the Embassy of Malaysia in Madrid where H.E. Mr. Muhammad Najib, Ambassador of Indonesia to Spain, presided as the Chair of ACM (members include the Philippines, Viet Nam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand). The Meeting exchanged views on the latest developments in ASEAN, the political and economic situation in Spain, and strengthening ASEAN-Spain relations. Furthermore, the Meeting also discussed on planned activities of ACM to be carried out throughout this year. The Chair of ACM also took the opportunity to host a luncheon for ACM Members and also invited high-level executives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain - H.E. Mr. Emilio de Miguel Calabia, Ambassador for the Indo-Pacific, and Mr. Gerardo Fueyo, Deputy Director-General from the Directorate General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Pacific.

After the Meeting, the Ambassador of Indonesia to Spain handed over the Chairmanship of ACM to the Ambassador of Malaysia to Spain, who will be the Chair of ACM from January-June 2023.
