The Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand brought to Spain, on 16 May 2018, the performance of "Khon", the Thai classical court dance and diversified traditional dances at the Circulo de Bellas Artes.
The event was to extol Queen Sirikit, the Queen consort of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the great patron of Thai traditional dance, and also to commemorate 300 years of the first Treaty of Friendship and Navigation between Spain and Siam (the name of Thailand at that time) signed in 1718. The exhibition relating to all aspects of the Khon arts such as Khon masks, dresses including decorated headdresses or crowns and full-head masks” were also displayed.
The two rounds of the performance were well received by the Spanish audience whereby Mr. Veera Rojpojanarat, Minister of Culture, and Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand, were presiding at the openings.
