The Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid, in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, led 8 Thai companies, specialized in Halal products, to exhibit in Alimentaria 2018 in Barcelona during 16 – 18 April 2018.

Participating Thai companies ranged from processed Thai fruits and juice, jasmine rice,
to cereal products, all certified with Halal.  Furthermore, a Thai delegate, Dr. Winai Dahlan, Director of Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, participated in the Halal Congress at Alimentaria. The Thai delegation also held bilateral meeting with members of the Halal Institute of Cordoba with an aim to enhance cooperation on the promotion of Halal in Spain and Thailand.

The participation in the said event is Thailand’s effort to establish a channel and firm stand in European Halal market.  Thailand is one of the leading Halal Food Producers with strength in the abundant agricultural raw materials for Halal production. Thailand is also internationally accepted for food safety guaranteed by CODEX standards and is renowned for scientific research to support the Halal Certification.

At present Thailand ranks 10th among the world’s largest Halal food exporters to OIC countries; and the Thai government aims at promoting the country to be one of the top five exporters of Halal products and service within the next five years.

In addition to Halal food products, Thailand is proud to promote Halal tourism, which, according to the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2016, Thailand was ranked 2nd as the top non-OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) most popular destination.
