On 27 October 2024, Ms. Supamas Yunyasit, chargés d'affaires a.i., attended the blessing ceremony to inaugurate "Wat Paññagiri," a temple in the Theravada Buddhist tradition located in Aiguafreda, in the northern part of the Province of Barcelona, Catalonia. The ceremony was presided over by Ven. Ajahn Amaro Bhikkhu, the abbot of Amaravadi Buddhist Monastery in the United Kingdom, and attended by honourable guests including Mrs. Kanyapak Vorasaph, spouse of the Ambassador of Thailand to Spain; Mr. Manuel Matachana, Honourary Consul of Thailand in Barcelona; Mr. Emilio De Miguel, Ambassador-at-Large for the Indo Pacific at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain/Director of Casa Asia (Madrid Centre), and former Spanish Ambassador to Thailand; Mr. Joan Manuel Lopez Nadal, former Spanish Ambassador to Thailand, and members of the Thai Friends Samakkhi Association, as well as Thais from various cities in Spain, including Mallorca, Valencia, and Madrid, along with their family members and the interested public.

 
Wat Paññagiri adopted the practices of a forest temple as taught by Ven. Ajahn Chah (Phra Bodhiñāna Thera) and Ven. Ajahn Sumedho. Ajahn Chandako, a Spanish monk ordained at international monastery Wat Pah Nanachat, will reside at Wat Paññagiri. This monastery will serve as a spiritual centre for Thai people and those interested in studying the teachings of Buddhism in Spain.
