On 12 April 2026, Ms. Supamas Yunyasit, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid, attended Songkran (Thai New Year) celebration, organized with the support of the Royal Thai Embassy and the Thai community at Wat Paññagiri in Aiguafreda, Barcelona.
The Songkran event included Buddhist chanting, merit-making and alms offering, observing the Five Precepts, offering requisites to monks, bathing the Buddha image, and paying respect by pouring water over monks and elders from both Thai and Spanish communities. An almshouse with Thai food was also provided to guests. Approximately 150 people, including Thais, Spaniards, and families, attended the event.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid would like to express its sincere appreciation to Wat Paññagiri, led by Phra Ajahn Nyanadassano and the Thai community for their collaboration in organizing this event. The celebration helps preserve and promote Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, supports the practice of Buddhism in Spain, and strengthens unity among the Thai community in Spain, in line with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ key mission to build strong Thai communities abroad.
