On 12 July 2022, H.E. Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha EKAROHIT, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain, visited the Embassy of Japan to sign the condolence book on the passing away, on 8 July 2022, of H.E. Mr. Shinzo ABE, former Prime Minister of Japan. The Ambassador was greeted by H.E. Mr. Kenji HIRAMATSU, Ambassador of Japan to Spain, during the visit.

In her message, the Ambassador expressed her profound condolences on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid and the Thai people, to the Government and the people of Japan, as well as to the family of former Prime Minister ABE. The Ambassador emphasized the important contribution of former Prime Minister ABE in strengthening Thailand-Japan relations during his premiership. His visit to Thailand in 2013 was particularly important as it was at that time the first official visit at prime minister level from Japan after 11 years, and helped to lay a solid foundation in further strenghthening the relations between Thailand and Japan afterwards. He was also a strong supporter of ASEAN-Japan relations. His legacy will always be remembered not only by the Japanese people, but also by the Thai people.
